Resident opposes new motocross track request

Open Letter to Lyon County Commissioners
16 February 2010

Dear Commissioners

On Thursday, you will be asked to approve another motocross series at the Fair Grounds under the pretence of evaluating the impact on the nearby residential area.  In reality, you already approved two such motocross events last fall. The evaluation period was then.

After those two Motocross events, approximately 200 voting age Mason Valley residents and business owners had the spine to stand up and sign a petition requesting the County to relocate the Motocross track to a more appropriate location.

These individuals spoke for maintaining the “quality of life” in Mason Valley, from the  nuisance of excess noise and dirt. I applaud them.

No noise barrier is strong enough to protect homeowners from motorcycle racing noises 600 feet away, from disturbing the peace and quiet of any neighborhood.

In Washoe County, where Mustang Motoplex is from, a nuisance ordinance limits the operation of a single motorcycle to 1000 feet of any residence. If his own county limits him, should not the same limits apply here in Lyon County?

I choose to move to Yerington for its tranquillity and lifestyle. I was invested here prior to the expansion of the Lyon County Fair Grounds, and/or the recent plans for a Motocross Track.

Please vote NO for any future motocross activities on this property.

Respectfully,

Gary Adams

Cottonwood Lane
