Mason Valley Resident Announces Candidacy
At the December meeting of the Lyon County Republican Women’s Luncheon, Virgil Arellano, of Mason Valley announced that he will be seeking election to the Lyon County Board of Commissioners, District Five seat. Current District 5 Commissioner Phyllis Hunewill, will be term-limited out in 2010.
Arellano was born and raised in Reno, Nevada. He attended Verdi Elementary, Swope Junior High School, Reno High School, Wyoming School of Animal Technology, Los Rios Community College and American River College in Sacramento, California. He is a graduate of the Sacramento City Fire Academy and a retired Firefighter from El Dorado County Fire Protection District. He also holds a California Teaching Credential in Agricultural Resources and Equine Judging Credential from Utah State University.
After his retirement, Arellano returned to Nevada. He was appointed to the Lyon County Planning Commission in December of 2006 and currently serves as Vice-Chairman. He also serves on the South Lyon County Medical Center Board of Directors, as well as the Coalition for Public Access. He is an active member of the International Association of Firefighters, American Quarter Horse Association, Pony of the Americas and the Lyon County Republican Central Committee.
Arellano has a substantial record of community service in California as well as Nevada. In his spare time he enjoys golf, equestrian activities, leather crafts, performing arts, hiking and fly- fishing.
